78786 Toyota Sprinter Trueno “Initial D” Project D Final Version (AE86)

The AE86 series, encompassing the Toyota Corolla Levin and Toyota Sprinter Trueno, were compact, front-engine/rear-wheel-drive models derived from the fifth generation Corolla (E80) range, produced by Toyota from 1983 to 1987. These vehicles, prized for racing, boasted lightweight construction, affordability, and extensive modification options. Key features included a five-speed manual transmission, optional limited slip differential, MacPherson strut front suspension, and a high-revving twin-cam engine with an oil cooler. Notably, they maintained a front-engine/rear-drive layout at a time when such configurations were becoming less common in the industry.

Renowned in various racing categories such as Showroom Stock, Group A, Group N, Rally, and drifting, the AE86 gained international acclaim early on. Its prominence was further solidified by its central role in the popular Japanese manga and anime series, Initial D (1995–2013), where it served as the protagonist's drift car. Described by Road & Track in 2015 as a "cult icon," the AE86's legacy endured, influencing subsequent generations of sports cars, including the Toyota 86 (2012–present), developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru.

In a nostalgic move, Toyota resumed production of select AE86 parts in November 2021, including steering knuckle arms and rear brake calipers, with plans for rear axle half shafts in the pipeline. However, this initiative is temporary, with parts available only until stocks are depleted.
